Kate & Sophie's Stormy Wedding at the Corliss-Carrington House in Providence, RI

Kate and Sophie’s wedding a week ago in Providence was about as rainy as it could have possibly been, and despite this last minute curve ball we like to think their wedding will actually be more memorable because of it. Sometimes things just don’t turn out as anticipated, and that’s perfectly fine. The Corliss-Carrington House is an incredibly beautiful private property on the east side of Providence, and we’re struggling to think of a more romantic venue during a rain squall. Built in the early 1800s the building as it stands now features stately brick construction, is covered in green ivy, and has both a beautiful cobblestone courtyard as well as a carriage house and accompanying yard shrouded by the oldest trees you’ll find in Providence. Slick with rainwater the greens growing everywhere popped even more amidst all of the brick and the warm lantern glow contrasted the grey-blue light that permeated the grounds.

Sophie and Kate’s wedding day needed to hit a few very important points: get ready close to the venue, see their beloved dog-son Wally before the ceremony, eat delicious bites lovingly made by Bites by Bre, have incredibly cute cocktails courtesy of Bevi e Vivi, and dance to live music with their friends and families - anything else was just icing on the cake. With these aforementioned points absolutely met, the fact that they still managed to have their ceremony outdoors surrounded by their guests huddled underneath umbrellas in the early autumn rain absolutely qualifies as icing on the cake. While a bit chilly, the mood and atmosphere during their vows to one another were out of this world. As one question after the next piled up leading up to the ceremony, the relief and jubilation on Kate and Sophie’s faces as they strode out of it said it all: they’d done it how they envisioned it, if with a bit of a twist.

As the rain continued to fall and drinks were poured from Bevi e Vivi’s impossibly adorable mobile drink cart, guests made their way to the tent to share dinner by candlelight, hear stories from siblings and best friends, and share some slow moments on the dance floor before the band opened things up. Wine pouring while heavy rain drops hammered the roof of the tent is a visceral memory of ours from this evening, and looking back it’s almost hard to imagine it any other way. When the music started going and the floor opened up it seemed almost a necessity to dance as the temperatures dropped - folks got moving and moving quick. Did we mention that this wedding was on the 21st of September? Ever heard that Earth, Wind & Fire song? You bet the band fired that one up before the night was through and it felt like the perfect way to call the evening. Guests lined the exit to Corliss-Carrington onto Power Street and Kate and Sophie, donning fun new outfits, excitedly ran outta there on their way to the afterparty. This wedding is proof that nothing matters outside of your commitment to enjoyment; Kate and Sophie just needed the day to happen and for each other and their loved ones to be a part of it.
