Suzanne & Kevin's Countryside Wedding at Riverside Farm in Pittsfield, VT
Before we moved up to Providence in 2018 we lived in Baltimore, MD for a spell, close to where Andy grew up. Although we’re firmly planted here in New England, Charm City will always be special to us so when Suzanne and Kevin reached out to us to tell us all about their wedding in Vermont we were pleasantly surprised to learn that not only did they live in Baltimore, they lived in the same dang neighborhood we used to, hon (shout out Hampden)! It served as a great starting point for getting to know them a bit better before their wedding, and their love for Baltimore showed up in tons of little ways throughout the day (not the least of which was that Kevin quite literally is the National Bohemian guy). Having met each other and stayed together since highschool, Suzanne and Kevin’s wedding felt like an inevitability to everyone invited to it. Most of the people there had known them as a singular entity for at least a decade and as such the mood was light, goofy, and incredibly party-forward.
Riverside Farm is, as the name suggests, a beautiful property situated alongside the Tweed River and spans some 700+ acres along its banks. It’s a sprawling place with lots of lovingly renovated barns, farm houses, and outbuildings dotting the landscape and offers a unique layout for weddings: spaces crafted for the ceremony, the cocktail hour, and the reception all feel uniquely gorgeous and well thought out. Suzanne and Kevin first saw each other on the road leading from the main house down to Rt. 100 between some elder maples and read their vows there in private to the other. It was a moment of calm and quiet before what would be a rocking party by night’s end. Their ceremony, a few hundred yards away and shrouded by an insanely pretty chuppah framed with florals by Birds of a Flower, was isolated in a field save a single tree and against the backdrop of the ridge line felt almost surreal in its presentation.
Cocktail hour in the shade of the tree line was juxtaposed with classic Vermont evening light falling on the opposing hillside that highlighted the changing foliage in the distance. It was a lovely way for guests to unwind and catch up with old friends and family and as the temperatures started to drop in tandem with the sun in the sky, guests were welcomed into an unbelievably cozy reception space in the main barn. Candlelight and timber framing is a favorite combo of ours and the mood indoors was so very romantic. After toasts and dinner concluded we’re happy to say that Suzanne and Kevin quite literally never left the dance floor once they first stepped onto it. These two came to dance and their friends from all points in their lives got the memo; this was one of the most rowdy floors we’ve photographed in quite a while. A surprise sax performance by Kevin to the tune of Uptown Funk felt like the climax of the evening and had people going nuts. After the final song played and we said our goodbyes Suzanne and Kevin made sure we knew we had some new friends to visit for next time we’re in our old stomping grounds and after a quick Natty Bo cheers we hit the road.
