Bryanna & Tim's Early June Wedding at the Hitching Post in Dayton, ME

It would be so easy to wake up to forecasts of torrential rain on a wedding day and let the anxiety creep in, and even easier to make the call to switch to the indoor back-up plan the second it started pouring. Last Saturday in Maine, Bryanna and Tim weren’t so easily swayed and, despite starting the day in the wet, they held off calling it until the last moment in hopes of carrying on with their outdoor ceremony plans. We had no idea how they would handle the reality of having such a rainy day for their wedding but these two were determined not to let it get to them. One of Bryanna’s bridesmaids told us “Bry’s going out there, rain or not, and she’ll love every minute of it” as the ceremony time approached, to which we responded that we’d be right there with her. Their patience was rewarded with a break in the clouds just long enough for the ceremony up the hill from the barn before the rains came again and everyone was ushered back inside, and despite the weather we could see the triumph on their faces afterwards. This probably speaks more to Bry and Tim than anything else on their wedding day; they were in it for each other, for their families, for their friends. It could have been a muddy slip and slide outside and as long as they were doing it together they were going to be happy.

All that being said, the unseasonably cool temperatures and rainy weather created an intimate atmosphere that was as unexpected as it was beautiful. The candlelight on the dinner tables and the warmth from the beautiful 1870s era barn interior cultivated a feeling of closeness, of togetherness that made the evening feel special in its own way. As the rain panged off the tin roof near the back of the barn and friends gave toasts to the newly married couple, we got the sense that this was all perfectly fine with Bry and Tim. They literally couldn’t stop looking at each other, grinning ear to ear as if to say “we did it.” A tight core group kept the dancefloor alive throughout the evening, ending with an arm-in-arm dance to Billy Joel’s Piano Man, and as the song came to a close Bry and Tim thanked those closest to them for making it through to the end with them. When things don’t go quite to plan and it’s still as fun as it was with these two, we can’t really complain at all, and we’re glad we had the opportunity to document it with them.
