Jade & Sam's Lakeside Wedding at Camp Lenox in the Berkshires

“We love a silly time and we’re hoping our wedding day will be silly, too” were the words that had us excited to document Jade and Sam’s camp wedding last Saturday, and now that it’s come and gone we’re kind of sad it’s over. Hosted at Camp Lenox, a sleepaway camp in Otis, MA, their wedding was aimed at keeping things lighthearted and fun. The atmosphere, being a camp and all, felt informal in the best way: folks were mulling around on paddle boards and getting out of the lake after a swim as we rolled into the parking lot, and golf carts whizzed this way and that as staff worked to get things ready for the festivities. The ceremony site by the lake was adorned with the most vibrant florals courtesy of Harvest Moon Florals, but other than that the camp sat mostly as it always does which is exactly what they wanted for their day. The idea was to focus entirely on their people, and let the charm of the place do the rest.

The two of them were eager to see each other and shake off all that pre-ceremony tension and anticipation, and the moment they did there were happy tears and big laughs. After a sweet hello Sam looked up at us and said “this just feels so normal, except today we’re getting married,” which to us seemed the perfect summation of the vibe that day. We could see how much their presence did to steady the other during the ceremony, during toasts at the reception, during their first dance in front of all their friends and family. It wasn’t until guests took a moment between dinner and dancing to change into their decades-themed costumes - yes, nearly everyone in attendance came with an alternate look - that we really understood Jade and Sam’s dynamic, and our jaws sort of dropped. They re-entered the mess hall in absurd 80’s themed neon and poofy shoulder attire looking like the coolest kids at the party, and what ensued was the most ludicrous party chock full of wild dance moves and at least five separate dance-offs (one or two between Jade and her dad). The crowd really leaned into the vibe as the night wore on and we can honestly say we don’t think we’ve photographed a more goofy evening, in the best way possible. A silly time indeed, mission accomplished, well done Jade and Sam.
