Sarah & Matt's Almost-Summer Wedding at the Haley Mansion in Mystic, CT
There’s something unique about these old mansions by the sea - a bit rickety, maybe even a little spooky, and absolutely chock full of the kind of energy that takes standing strong in the face of coastal weather for over a century to produce. Grand columns and massive windows paned with rippled, turn of the century glass add to the place’s colonial revival style and, perched atop a hill overlooking the harbor and greater Mystic, the Haley Mansion is an incredibly cool place to host a wedding. Sarah and Matt, who both currently live in Connecticut, picked the spot because of its location by the water but also for its old world charm. They both got ready in the mansion, one upstairs and one downstairs, and the entirety of the wedding day would be held on site - a real treat for appreciators of fine old architecture like ourselves. Despite some last minute changes in plan, these two couldn’t have been more relaxed on their wedding day and after seeing each other in the formal garden for the first time and privately reading their vows to one another, it was plain to see how easy going the rest of the day would be. The ceremony took care to involve all of their family members (even their niece Evelyn as flower girl, who turned 1 that day!), something we love to see despite the growing trend of lightning quick ceremonies, and a handful of toasts during the reception painted a vivid picture of the type of folks Sarah and Matt are to those closest to them: incredibly caring, empathetic people who love deeply. The night capped with one of the liveliest DJ sets ever, mixing tunes new and old in a franticly energetic way that had folks of all ages bumping around and dancing together. It was so lovely to be a part of this day, to get to watch two folks who we’ve been chatting with and photographing for so long finally get married, and to see it all happen surrounded by their most loved ones.
