Kate & Rob's Stormy Beachside Wedding in Plymouth, MA
We’re starting to detect a trend for weddings taking place in June of 2023: rainy forecasts punctuated with brief pauses in precipitation that just so happen to align with ceremony times. It’s almost getting spooky at this point, considering we’ve had more weddings this year follow almost this exact timeline than not, and although it keeps everyone on their toes quite literally until the last minute we’re sure glad that the rain hasn’t dampened things entirely just yet. Kate and Rob are two of the sweetest, most genuinely kind people we’ve met and when they described their wedding plans on the beach in front of Kate’s mom’s place in Plymouth, MA we were eager to learn more about them. Kate’s from Massachusetts while Rob grew up in southern California, and their paths first intertwined in New York City where they both lived and worked at the time. Having a wedding ceremony on the sand in a place so familiar to Kate and her family just felt right even though they grew up on opposite sides of the country, and the resulting guest list was split nearly 50/50 with east and west coasters.
They opted to keep things low-key and as stress free as they could in the face of uncertain weather projections, and while we kept a close watch on the radar that day Kate and Rob quietly prepared for stormy skies. As many umbrellas as they could source were brought in, folks came with rain gear just in case, and as the ceremony time approached we crossed our fingers. The wedding party made their way to the front of where guests had gathered, all with their own umbrella, and as Rob stood waiting to catch his first glimpse of Kate coming down the aisle with her dad the most unlikely thing happened: the sun came out. Despite swirling clouds and a steady breeze the sky literally parted for not much longer than the duration of the ceremony, and after some quick portraits by the ocean we all raced to the car/trolley as the rains came again.
The rest of the evening was a downpour, and thanks to their cautious preparation (way to get the tent with sides!) everyone stayed mostly dry throughout the reception. We say mostly because Kate and Rob, whose relationship seems as fun loving as it is rock solid, hired an ice cream truck to roll up three quarters of the way through the night and yep, they absolutely climbed aboard and handed out various frozen treats to their guests. Despite the wet, these two were grinning ear to ear throughout the majority of it. If you prepare for the worst and are ready to roll with the punches, it’s entirely possible to still have this much fun when things don’t go entirely to plan. Kate and Rob are a shining example of resilience in the face of uncertainty and we had such a good time documenting that with them.
