Tricia & Dan's Coastal Farm Wedding in Little Compton, RI
Ending our 2022 season with Tricia and Dan’s wedding at Dan’s family’s property in Little Compton was such a sweet way to close out a wild year for us. Always in the back of our minds as we approached November, their wedding was such a love filled celebration that felt so appropriate for the people and community it celebrated. Tricia and Dan both come from Rhode Island and in fact their families live right down the road from one another, so hosting their wedding here made perfect sense. After a week of ominous forecasts, Saturday arrived with a high of 70 degrees and mostly sunny skies in the afternoon - unseasonably warm for November but ideal weather for a wedding. Dogs of all shapes and sizes ran playfully around the property while guests took in the sights and explored the space surrounding the ceremony. No small amount of effort went into crafting what was arguably the centerpiece for the day: a wedding chapel built just for their wedding, complete with a bell for ringing. Situated among the beachy brambles, the chapel represented their relationship in so many ways and was absolutely beautiful. A sandy tidal pond served as the backdrop for the ceremony and as the sun dipped lower in the sky a gentle fog settled in just over the surface of the water.
Something that seemed so effortless at the time but has stuck with us since was their attention to detail. From the table settings to the florals (courtesy of two of Tricia’s best friends - Young Designs and The Local Bouquet) to the music, everything seemed to have heaps of intention poured into it. It was clear to us that Tricia and Dan wanted their guests to feel like they had stepped into a different world for the day, one crafted with the soul purpose of celebrating their marriage with as many friends and family members as possible. The landscape, the weather, the in-the-moment heroics of Dan’s brother during the ceremony to reseat the wedding bell that had wiggled loose, everything came together on the day in the best way.
Toasts and roasts from old friends and family members kicked off the evening under the candlelit tent where guests sat at long tables as they dined on plates heaped with steaming pasta. It was such a timelessly romantic vibe and, again, was elevated by the details. Music started with a stomping quartet of fiddlers and progressed into a full band that kept the energy high and lively. Tricia and Dan took turns filling a decanter from the massive barrel of wine and checked in with every table to make sure each person had enough to drink, something that spoke to their capacity for care and attention to both each other and all of their beloved guests.
As dinner wrapped up the crowd was invited outside for a fireworks display and while they waited Dan hopped on the piano, Tricia broke out a huge box of cigars, and everyone took their turn lighting them with the flames from the candles glowing atop the piano. Cultivating an atmosphere that allows for spontaneity like this is no easy task, but again it just seemed to happen so organically at this wedding. Fireworks hissed and crackled and exploded in technicolor just past the chapel and the entire property was illuminated in an incredibly cinematic glow as everyone cheered and reveled in the moment. We were left almost breathless by the effort put into this wedding, on a micro and macro scale. As the smoke cleared and we wrapped up for the night we both concluded that we couldn’t have had a better end to our season, and we have Tricia and Dan to thank for that.
