Krista & Justin's Elegant Autumnal Wedding at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI

We’re closing in on the end of our regular season and we can hardly believe it. 2021 has been a beast of a year for us for so many reasons, but through it all we’ve had celebrating with our amazing couples to look forward to. Krista and Justin’s wedding felt incredibly unique to us. Not only was it in our home state, but it was less than 5 minutes away from the beach we frequent during the summer, and it was refreshing to see that part of the state in a season we’re not normally down there for. When we showed up in Portsmouth under partly cloudy skies, the first thing we noticed was the ocean mist that hung in the air. It’s not the sort of thing that jumps out at you, but rather lends the light a soft quality that falls gently instead of hitting harshly. The second thing we noticed was that the Glen Manor House possessed a unique, almost spooky presence that immediately drew us into photographing it. Its massive stone walls and chimneys tower over the property that looks over a section of the bay in what feels like an entirely different part of the world. The ceremony site is flanked on three sides by old craggy trees, and on the fourth the manor stands stoically. It really was an instance of ‘there’s no wrong way to point the camera' and we felt like a couple of kids in a sandbox the whole day.

There’s also the fact that both of them are from Rochester, NY - a place near and dear to our hearts, as we met and went to college there. There’s some indescribable quality about people who have either grown up or spent significant chunks of their life in that part of NY state, and working their wedding felt like home to us in more than one way. To say they both looked incredible on the day would be an understatement. From Krista’s minimalistic Sarah Seven dress and pearl covered veil, to Justin’s velvet shoes, to the flowers by Sweet Talk Floral that graced the bouquets, boutonnieres, and literally everywhere around the manor this day felt like the mastermind project of two people with discerning eyes for detail. Their families and friends were also instrumental in the success of the day, and not just through the love they poured over them. When the WIFI cut out during their first dance, halting the music, everyone joined in and finished the chorus allowing Krista and Justin to close out their dance together. It was a moment that could potentially spell disaster at any other wedding, but it turned out to be one of the most beautiful things we’ve seen this year. When the formalities were through and the crew stormed the dance floor, a Buffalo Bills flag was brandished, tossed in the air, and eventually laid out for everyone to sign as a wedding gift. We couldn’t help but smile along with these happy upstate New Yorkers and feel a pang of nostalgia for our time spent there during and after school. It was truly an honor to be a part of this dream team and we have Krista and Justin to thank for their vision in putting it all together.
