Amanda & Andy's Elopement in the Berkshires, MA

We first bonded with Amanda and Andy, well before this pandemic, over good eats at a spot they recommended near their apartment in Somerville, MA. What the four of us entered as a client meeting we ended as fast friends and we’ve been eagerly awaiting the day of their wedding ever since. We have come to learn that their taste in all things food, beer, wine and, as it turns out, wedding planning is top shelf. Something as intangible as good taste seems perhaps an odd way to characterize a wedding, but last Thursday spent with these two was just that: incredibly tasteful and true to them. In a way it seems like it was meant to be; the wedding they had planned for over a year and a half changed drastically as current events developed and shaped the world around all of us and what resulted was an incredibly intimate seven guest wedding at a private home in the Berkshires. Pleasantly decorated and aged beautifully, the old farmhouse that was the scene for both getting ready and the ceremony itself had exactly the kind of charm we’d come to expect from Amanda and Andy. Everywhere we turned seemed another place for light to fall perfectly, for lines to carry our eyes, for frames to make themselves. These two went to great lengths to ensure every detail was in the right place. The thought and care that went into everything from the musical selections for the ceremony to the glasses for champagne toasts to the trust they put in Lorinda over at Sweet Talk Floral to work her magic on the flower arrangements to the wonderful dinner at the Blantyre later in the evening was astounding. Everything and everyone worked together harmoniously to create a day that honored both their own relationship but also those with their family and friends present and not. With everything in its right place, the focus was truly on the love these two have for one another. It’s a kind of dry, funny love that shows in the way they riff sarcastically off what ever joke the other just made. It’s built on mutual respect and a deep care for the other person as an individual; a love that humbles us as photographers whose job it is to photograph people in love. Maybe it’s that not everyone in their lives could attend which forced them to be ultra-present and feel every single moment, or maybe it’s just because it took so many damn tries before they figured out how to pull off a wedding in 2020. It felt like something that was always going to happen no matter what, it had just asked us all for a little patience.
