Annie & Jeff's Backyard Wedding in Westport, CT

Backyard weddings are the trend right now, for good reason. With the future so uncertain for gatherings and events, if the option to get married in your parents’ backyard with a small group of your closest friends and family presents itself…you go for it! Annie and Jeff did just that last Saturday in Westport, CT, a quaint little town a bit over an hour outside of NYC. With weddings at private residences comes heaps of originality and unique touches and Annie’s parents’ house was truly representational of that. Beehives on the property provided honey which was given out as wedding favors (currently having some of this honey in my tea right now), Annie’s dad brewed beer specifically for the reception, and everywhere you looked black and white photos from family weddings of years past popped up, reminding guests of the history behind the space and the occasion. It’s hard to go any further in describing this wedding without mentioning the star of the show, Jeff and Annie’s adorable and ultra soft golden retriever Tiger. Beloved by all and the recipient of many belly scritches, Tiger really made the day special. During their ceremony the officiant asked Annie and Jeff to look out on the small crowd that attended and be grateful for each and every one of them that were present for their wedding. It was a moment that made me as the photographer stop what I was doing and consider the reality that is getting married during this pandemic. It’s a huge show of love to witness the wedding of two people, now more than ever, and I could see that realization on Annie and Jeff’s faces. I could tell what this meant to them and to have it happen their own way was huge. Tiger storming down the aisle to greet his parents immediately after their first kiss was just icing on the cake.
