Jocelyn & Justin's Wedding at the Margaretville Mountain Inn in the Catskills, NY

The Catskills Mountains of New York are right up there at the top of our list of favorite places to photograph. We’ve been fortunate enough to travel there twice now for weddings and oddly enough both took place just one small town away from one another. We even happened upon the same little diner in the middle of no where before realizing exactly how close we were to the last wedding we photographed there. There is something about the expanse of the countryside and the sense of isolation exacerbated by lack of cell phone service that puts us in a unique mindset conducive to photographing weddings. Waking up slowly in the forested hills showing early signs of fall color and making our way over to the Margaretville Mountain Inn in the early afternoon we were greeted by both Jocelyn and Justin convening on the beautiful wrap around porch with close family. Right away we understood exactly how relaxed this day would be. We’re so lucky to work with people like these: kind souls who welcomed us into their day and are passionate about photography and enthusiastically trusted our creative eye. Something we love to see more and more at weddings is couples planning their day in a way that makes sense for them, over the way tradition typically dictates. Jocelyn and Justin spent their morning with family and friends helping one another get ready in a space so timeless it could have just as easily been the 1950’s. Wallpaper unique to each room, quirky furniture and framed portraits, and an exterior reminiscent of the house in Beetlejuice made us wonder if perhaps we’d stepped through some kind of time-warp. After the ceremony they stepped away from the crowd to share a private glass (or two) of champagne before joining back up with the party in the barn where they had a packed dance floor thanks to the killer band, The Gold Magnolias. The saxophone played by Justin’s brother contrasted with the string lights against creaky old timber perfectly illustrated how these two were able to bring a bit of NYC flair with them to the Catskills. A roaring bonfire beckoned guests outside where overlapping mountain ridges, just barely visible in the fading dusk, melted into the horizon while countless stars shone brightly above.
