Rachel & Zach's Modern Wedding at 250 Long Pond in the Berkshires, MA

Imagine planning a wedding with a non-traditional ceremony, BBQ buffet, and backyard style reception. Now imagine that wedding taking place at an ultra modern estate in the Berkshires and that’s where we found ourselves this past Saturday for Rachel and Zach’s intimate wedding that nearly took our breath away. Rachel and Zach, both artists living in New York, first described their wedding to us as a bit unconventional and from the start we knew it would be an interesting one. From the architecturally angular space in which everyone got ready, to the private ceremony that Rachel and Zach walked down the aisle to together, to the incredibly beautiful BBQ style buffet courtesy of Honor Harvey, to the surrounding views of the Berkshire Mountains we were dazzled over and over by the visual feast that was their wedding. Of course not having some original art wasn’t an option given the combined artistic talent between Rachel and Zach, and each guest left the wedding with a hand made print of the tree in the front yard of their new purchased home in New York. Everything came together in concert to compliment them as a couple without being overpowered by the sheer drama of the estate. The building itself was sleek and sharp, with long corridors at once hiding and revealing adjacent rooms as visitors passed through. Reflective surfaces around every corner contrasted with solid tonal walls made color and light dance freely throughout the space. This was not a house simply built, furnished, and lived in. Each and every detail was placed with great care and intention in order to cast light and shadow in various ways. The beauty of 250 Long Pond was almost overwhelming as each direction we turned we found ourselves in awe of the lines, the presence, the attitude left behind by the architect. This was Rachel and Zach’s intention, though: to pull their guests into this space and invite them to take part in the spectacle. They succeeded in planning a wedding that both felt true to themselves and refreshingly daring and we had an incredible time photographing it.
