Cait & Nate's Mid-October Wedding at the Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton, MA

Rainy weddings that maybe don’t turn out exactly as planned still being an absolute blast isn’t impossible, it’s not even that tough really. The primary deciding factor on how much fun you have on your definitely wetter than expected wedding day is how good you are at finding the silver lining of it all. Cait and Nate made it incredibly clear to us that not only was that exactly what they intended to do regarding the weather, keeping their chin up was sort of their motto, their outlook on life in general. From the moment they first saw one another that day on the porch of the Groton Inn to the moment we said goodnight in the rain outside of the barn at Gibbet Hill, it never seemed like anything could dampen their day as long as they were doing it together.

For the brief moments before the rain hit that we did get outside with these two, the mid-October foliage in northern Massachusetts was practically peaking. Trees atop the hill off in the distance were brilliant shades of red, yellow, and orange and we were all excited to be able to take any photos at all outside before the weather shifted. Once it did and guests began to arrive for the ceremony the temperatures really began to nosedive outside, dropping down to the mid 40s as the night wore on, and the resulting atmosphere inside the barn was incredibly cozy. Their ceremony officiated by Nate’s stepdad Carl was endearingly funny and sweet all at the same time, with Carl imparting words of wisdom and acknowledging each Cait and Nate’s natural ability to make the best out of any given situation together. As they left the ceremony grinning and giggling as they waved to friends and family it was clear that they had, in fact, made the best of a rainy day.

They told us ahead of time that they were looking forward to dancing photos, which to us means to get ready for some wild dance floor action, and they didn’t disappoint. Just as music started Cait re-emerged in an incredible 20’s flapper-inspired dress and feather scarf and everyone pretty much went nuts. The band had everyone dancing, playing games, and singing along as members made their way through the crowd with microphones in hand, offering them to anyone wanting to belt out a few lines to Dancing Queen or Pink Pony Club. It stayed wild literally the entire time we were there and before we drove off for the evening we stepped outside with Cait and Nate to cool off for a minute, embracing the rain that pushed the change in plans that day. It felt like a beautifully cathartic way to end the evening and as we said bye they literally rushed back through the doors and onto the dance floor for more.
