Carolyn & Gearóid's Farmhouse Wedding in Goshen, CT
Carolyn and Gearóid’s (Caro and Garo for short) wedding last Saturday was surreal in its beauty. Other than a handful of family members, most of the around 40 guests all traveled from New York City to witness and celebrate the marriage of two people incredibly dear to them. Choosing to have an early evening ceremony to take advantage of the late day sun, they planned a day that felt equal parts back yard wedding and upscale refined cocktail party. Garo’s best friend Daire and his husband Mark opened their home to them and the rest of their friends, welcoming everyone into their escape from city life. Everyone in attendance witnessed a very specific slice of the day and got to watch the old farmhouse property (dating back to 1768!) transition through sunset and into deep, star laden night time. Warm orange light bathed the tent-covered dinner party, creating the perfect atmosphere for telling stories of old. We realized pretty early on in the day that the group they had invited out to northwestern Connecticut were incredibly special to them, but it wasn’t until Daire gave the first toast that we understood that every single person there was family. Daire recounted their years of friendship, dating back to college in Ireland, and told stories of heroic's on Garo’s behalf that illustrated his commitment to his nearest and dearest. Caro’s best friend Caitlin spoke of how driven and determined she was in her resolve to make a life in the big city, and how beautiful it was that Caro and Garo had found each other in a famously tumultuous NYC dating scene. Garo closed on toasts under the soft glow of the tent by telling the entire story of their first date together, the quintessential New York City date. We found ourselves in awe of them as a couple, a certain strength resulting in the hard work they put in to be with one another, and as the surprise fireworks that Daire found lit up the sky while guests processed to the pool house for dancing, the awe only continued. What awaited at by the pool was a box of sparklers, a fog machine, a massive disco ball, and thumping house music that got everyone to their feet again.
